Great Family Entertainment in Casper!
Don’t miss this weekend’s performance of Disney’s “Little Mermaid” at the Casper Children’s Theatre! The show is great fun for the whole family. Director Jordan Nelson explains that the show is a slightly shorter version of the Broadway production of Little Mermaid, (based on the Disney animated motion picture). “The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite movie,” she explains. “I was thrilled when they wanted to make a Junior version of the Broadway show.” Although the musical moves quickly, it still features all the classic songs, including “Part of Your World”, “Kiss the Girl”, and “Under the Sea,” as well as unforgettable characters such as Sebastian the crab, Flounder, Scuttle the seagull, Ursula the sea witch, King Trident, and of course the Little Mermaid herself, Ariel.
The Little Mermaid cast features young actors age 11-17. The kids have been working to hone their vocal and acting skills, and have even created their own costumes. The kids even challenged themselves with the set and props, and created coral reefs entirely of recycled materials. You’ll notice urchin tentacles made of melted plastic forks, sea lettuce created with melted vinyl LP records, and even coral made of disposable contact lens cases. But you would never know unless you looked closely. The amazing set visually transports the audience “under the sea!”
Nelson is very proud of the actors, “I knew this talented group of kids could be amazing in the Little Mermaid. I am very excited for people to see just how hard the kids have worked. At every step in this musical process a teen has had a hand in it. This show went beyond our normal show and has risen to something very special. Because of the dedication and hard work of the kids you can see and feel the difference in the show. You can see the kids having fun on stage and that’s what it’s all about!”
Showtimes are tonight (Friday, Oct. 19) at 7:00PM, tomorrow “(Saturday, Oct. 20) at 7:00PM, and Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2:00PM. Tickets are available at the door. The Casper Children’s Theatre is located in the Commissary Mall on 2nd and Kimball in Casper.
